The AOT was developed specifically for Non-Profit Organizations with multiple locations/chapters, all of whom work together to manage & add the following types of content on their website: 1) Actions 2) Calendar Items 3) Homepage Articles and General Announcements 4) Constituent/Chapter info. 5) Online community/forums 6) Petitions 7) Resources: Links & files 8) Etc. The mandate when creating the AOT was to build an application/system that met the following criteria: a) Easy to install AND maintain b) Easy for end users to use c) Easy to add/edit/delete sections d) Infinitely scalable architecture e) Easy to add/edit template files f) Well comment code and use explicit function and variable names g) "Beauty in simplicity" The AOT is the brainchild of longtime activists and social reformers in Chicago. They decided to release the code as open source (rather than proprietary/pay as you play software) so that anyone could benefit from its simplicity and ease-of-use.
