JGenerator is the web server production application that can dynamically combine text, graphics, and sound to build rich Flash content. more>> JGenerator 2.2 offers you a powerful product that combines text, graphics, and sound to build rich Flash content. The JGenerator is a free alternative to and analog of the Macromedia Generator. It supports most of the Macromedia Generator features, uses the same data format, the same set of commands and emulates its behavior.
Designers use the Macromedia Generator authoring extensions (Generator Objects) to create templates that contain variable elements (graphics, text, and sound) to be replaced with content provided by a data source (text files, databases, and so on). Then JGenerator reads the template, performs all substitutions and commands, and generates a Flash player movie which can be played back in the clients browser. The JGenerator frees designers from the tedium of updating Flash movies each time they make a small change to the content.
The JGenerator can work in two modes: online and offline. In online mode JGenerator runs under a web server and generates Flash movies by request from the clients browser. In offline mode the JGenerator runs in command line and generates static (.swf) movies which can be played back or used in any other possible way.
The JGenerator provides Java-based API which can be used by software engineers to dynamically build Flash movies either from a standalone program or from a servlet. The API fully covers and supports all versions of Flash file format (.swf, .swt) up to current version 5. The product is constantly evolving, if now it does not provide all the functionality which the Macromedia Generator does, it will do it shortly.
It emulates the Macromedia Generator behavior and functionality, but it is NOT the Macromedia Generator, it is a completely different product inside which was written from scratch. It has its own unique features in addition to those from Macromedia Generator.
The JGenerator is an open source project and is covered by Apache style license. It means that the source code is free and everybody can get it and do whatever she wants to do with it providing that all the license requirements are met. It also means that you can and you are encouraged to participate in the developing of this project.

- You don't have to learn it if you know the Macromedia Generator. The JGenerator emulates most of Macromedia Generator commands and its behavior and adds some additional useful features. You can even use the Macromedia Generator documentation when you use the JGenerator.

- Substantially faster than Macromedia Generator. On some templates in up to 20 times!
- Supports sofisticated server side caching. The feature that you only can have in Macromedia Generator Enterprise Edition (provided you paid a lot of money for that!).
- Provides servlet context for your Java datasources, so that you can easily customize a content of your site for every and each of your user.
- Collects statistic on number of templates processed, types of queries etc and stores it on disk for later retrieval.
- Very well scallable. If you are running JGenerator on multiprocessor server and your servlet engine does not have any restrictions on number of processors used, number of simultaneously connected users etc, then the JGenerator will use all the servers power. You also have an option to restrict number and amount of resources JGenerator is allowed to use. You can fine tune the JGenerator for your exact needs!

Applications can vary from the largest e-commerce system to the smallest stand-alone application. Quartz can be used to create simple or complex schedules for executing tens, hundreds, or even tens-of- tousands of jobs; jobs whose tasks are defined as standard Java components or EJBs.
The Quartz Scheduler includes many enterprise-class features, such as JTA transactions and clustering.
Major Features
- Job Scheduling:
- At a certain time of day (to the millisecond)
- On certain days of the week
- On certain days of the month
- On certain days of the year
- Not on certain days listed within a registered Calendar (such as business holidays)
- Repeated a specific number of times
- Repeated until a specific time/date
- Repeated indefinitely
- Repeated with a delay interval
- Job Execution:
- Jobs can be any Java class that implements the simple Job interface, leaving infinite possibilities for the work the Jobs can perform.
- Job class instances can be instantiated by Quartz, or by the applications framework.
- When a Trigger occurs, the scheduler notifies zero or more Java objects implementing the JobListener and TriggerListener interfaces (listeners can be simple Java objects, or EJBs, or JMS publishers, etc.). These listeners are also notified after the Job has executed.
- As Jobs are completed, they return a JobCompletionCode which informs the scheduler of success or failure. The JobCompletionCode can also instruct the scheduler of any actions it should take based on the success/fail code such as immediate re-execution of the Job.
- Job Persistence:
- The design of Quartz includes a JobStore interface that can be implemented to provide various mechanisms for the storage of jobs.
- With the use of the included JDBCJobStore, all Jobs and Triggers configured as "non-volatile" are stored in a relational database via JDBC.
- With the use of the included RAMJobStore, all Jobs and Triggers are stored in RAM and therefore do not persist between program executions but this has the advantage of not requiring an external database.
- Transactions:
- Quartz can participate in JTA transactions, via the use of JobStoreCMT (a subclas of JDBCJobStore).
- Quartz can manage JTA transactions (begin and commit them) around the execution of a Job, so that the work the Job does happens within a JTA transaction.
- Clustering:
- Fail-over.
- Load balancing.
- Listeners & Plug-Ins:
- Applications can catch scheduling events to monitor or control job/trigger behavior by implementing one or more listener interfaces.
- The Plug-In mechanism can be used add functionality to Quartz, such keeping a history of job executions, or loading job and trigger definitions from a file.
- Quartz ships with a number of "factory built" plug-ins and listeners.
- Runtime Environments:
- Quartz can run embedded within another free standing application
- Quartz can be instantiated within an application server (or servlet container), and participate in XA transactions
- Quartz can run as a stand-alone program (within its own Java Virtual Machine), to be used via RMI
- Quartz can be instantiated as a cluster of stand-alone programs (with load-balance and fail-over capabilities)
